Maximalism vs Minimalism: Boost Your Style with Artisan Silverware

Maximalism vs Minimalism: Boost Your Style with Artisan Silverware

Feb 26, 2025Anita MacKenzie

This blog post explores the contrasting styles of maximalism and minimalism. We review each style's basics and show what makes them unique. Before we begin, we need to “come clean” about something! We created two tablescapes: one maximalist and one minimalist, each featuring four of our unique flatware designs. Our goal is to show you that no matter what your home décor style, our unique silverware sets will enhance your table-setting aesthetic.

Are you a Minimalist?

When you come home after being out, does your home bring you a much-needed break from too much stimulation? If your answer is yes, you are probably a minimalist.

Here are some key elements of this home décor style:

Less is more. In a minimalist room, the focus is on the essentials, with the desire to create a clutter-free environment.

Based on an organic and sustainable lifestyle, this design philosophy opts for practical and functional furniture and home décor.

Minimalism embraces simplicity with the end goal of creating a calm, grounded sanctuary.

Minimalist styling tends to start with neutral colors, with wood flooring and plenty of white. The look leans toward contemporary styles, with geometric lines.

Or are you a Maximalist?

You don’t shy away from a lot of stimulation. You are all about visual stimulation and your home will reflect that.

Key elements of this style are:

More is more. Maximalist rooms are layered in color, patterns, and texture.

Rooms display décor that are curated to tell a story. Rooms tend to keep the eye busy, with plenty to see and enjoy. Still, everything has a purpose and a place.

Maximalists like to surround themselves with pieces that have personal meaning.

Color is a comfort to the maximalist. Rooms are typically color-drenched with an exciting mix and match of playful patterns.

Plateau gold flatware is a unique silverware set with its square, beveled handles is the ideal finish to this minimalist table…

…adding textural charm and complementing all the gold trim accents in this maximalist tablescape.

Brier Silverware

One of the hottest minimalist trends right now is to use black. Found in furniture and décor, it emphasizes simplicity, adding sleek clean lines. Brier is a unique silverware set with black handles, a perfect accent for this modern minimalist tablescape.

The gently rounded handles of our artisan-made Brier silverware set complement the artful visuals of this maximalist tablescape. Black is an ideal color for maximalist design because it is both dramatic enough to create visual contrast and versatile enough to go with any color palette.

Ridge Silverware

If you love the warm glow of a copper silverware set but aren’t sure how it will fit with a minimalist tablescape, consider using white and green in your décor. These colors complement our Ridge copper silverware set beautifully.

The ultimate blend of cool and warm tones, dark blue and copper come together to create this visually exciting and timeless maximalist setting. The deep blues of this tablescape bring a sense of calm while the metallic copper handles of the Ridge rustic silverware set add laidback elegance.

Jason Silverware

Jason stainless steel flatware features square handles with a raw or nascent finish. This design embodies the modern industrial style, which remains a popular trend in interior design. The straight lines and smooth, tumbled finish add texture to this minimalist industrial tablescape.

In maximalist design, unique silverware sets are much more than an accessory – they become the jewelry on the table. The polished utensils of the Jason silverware, paired with the rustic steel handles, create a visually appealing texture. Silver metallic tones are an eye-pleasing contrast to the gold trim of the fine china, adding depth and interest to the tablescape.

Now that you’ve seen how our artisanal flatware adds depth and personality to both minimalist and maximalist tablescapes, let’s address the question on everyone’s mind. Can minimalist and maximalist styles work together? Absolutely! The reality is that most of us feel more comfortable in a space that sits somewhere in the middle. We want to surround ourselves with cherished possessions and colors and textures that we love, but we don’t want clutter-free spaces that give us breathing room.

So, if you’re not a true-blue maximalist or a serious minimalist, what are you? Well, since you’re somewhere in the middle, you can proudly call yourself a “midimalist.”

Whether you are a minimalist, maximalist, or midimalist, our beautifully designed, handcrafted silverware sets will enhance your style and complement your tablescapes.
